Caleb Bent
Senior
Double major in Music education and Vocal Performance
Favorite piece if music that is being performed on this tour: Madrigals piece: O Magnum Mysterium because it is such as somber piece that leaves you wanting more. It is a comforting piece, warm piece, and consoling piece to listen to.
Caleb never been out of the country to this extent and has never flown on a plane. This is his chance to see what else the world has to offer and see how other cultures interact and work in life. He believes it will be interesting to observe and interact with these cultures. Caleb had the opportunity when he was younger to participate on a mission trip to Mexico. Looking back, he didn’t have as heightened of an experience that he could have had if he had been his current age. Being at an older age, this trip gives him an opportunity to understand the culture and experience this in a whole new light!
This is something so new for him that he is not sure what he is going to experience, but he understands the beauty in not knowing what to expect! Not having structure and knowing what to expect is terrifying, but absolutely exciting to find out what there is in store for him.
Mackenzie Ahlman

Favorite piece of music that is being performed in this tour:Eric Whitacre's Lux Aurumque
Mackenzie is looking forward to gaining Experience! Experience! Experience! She has never been to Europe, but she has been to central America. Mackenzie is looking forward to all of the memories she is going to make on this trip! Her sister is also one of the tour members performing! She is thrilled to share this experience with her sister, they are almost the same person!
Her minor is German so this I giving her opportunity to speak the language with locals!
Barbora Dirmontaite
Sophomore
Music Education
Favorite piece of music that is being performed in this tour: Exultate because the piece is so grand and sounds amazing in all of these churches and Regina Caeli which is a double choir piece.
Likes visiting all of the cultures and visiting with locals! She met an American woman who currently lives in Prague and who attended our first concert! The opportunity to tour Prague with some of her closest friends and family and being able to sing beyond ISU is what drew her to this experience. She wishes to take away the appreciation of other cultures and how they perceive us. Seeing others show the appreciation for our performance and seeing their reactions make her appreciate this experience even more!
“If you ever have an opportunity like this don’t skip out on it! Work hard and do everything you can because it is so worth it!”
Mark Grizzard
Instructional Assistant Professor
Theory and Choral Activities
Favorite piece of music that is being performed in this tour:He has a soft spot for Cicut Cervus because of the effectiveness and polyphony. It is free from the constraints that you can have with choral music. In the spaces we are singing in, hearing the resonance of that style is really powerful!
He is excited to see all of these historic and culturally important locations that we have studied in music that is tied to these locations and the opportunity to be visually connected to some music he is already familiar with! Going to Venice was a draw for him to participate as the double choir music we are doing is rooted in the Venetian style and the large history the city has in Western Music! Mark is thrilled to have this musical experience and make music with all of the tour members is going to be do fun in these acoustically beautiful and physically beautiful locations. He will have memories that will last a lifetime.
The opportunity to participate in a worship service gave us the tangible experience of local culture and was incredibly humbling. The fact that music is a bridge of what we do in the United States and what people are doing in the Czech Republic is unique!
